You are never too old for yoga. In fact, the older we get the more important it becomes to stretch and move, improve your balance and create a positive relationship with your body.
If you’ve retired recently you may be experiencing a void in your life that you fill by taking care of   others: family members and friends, or by doing voluntary work. As important and fulfilling as these duties can be, the Autumn of our lives can provide us with a wonderful opportunity to look within and find a different perspective, to honour and respect our bodies.

Yoga free us from our worries, burdens and any stress we may feel. It can make us feel truly free and content. And you can achieve all that from your yoga mat.You may even become healthier and happier than you have ever been.
This gentle hatha yoga class is for anyone regardless of their fitness and mobility level. No previous experience of yoga is necessary. The class will help you to increase your joint mobility and flexibility, improve balance and posture, encourage deeper breathing and enhance better sleeping patterns.
Yoga helps our body organs and systems – especially the endocrinal system to function properly. It aids tissue rejuvenation and toxin elimination. Some postures are designed to build stronger postural and pelvic floor muscles and improve stamina.
During the class I help each student with their individual needs regardless of ability and offer a variety of ways to do the postures. As both your flexibility and strength develop you can gradually progress from

Mature older man doing yogaeasier to more advanced postures.I greatly encourage home practice and give my students ‘home practice sheets’ with posture descriptions and illustrations.

Apart from physical postures – yoga asanas, we practice various forms of pranayama- breathing exercises, chanting – singing special sounds to help harmonise our emotions and revitalise our organs, guided relaxation and meditation. I also introduce some important points of yoga philosophy that can help us all develop a broader outlook on life.

If you are over 50 and this class time is not right for you, you may be able to join other classes, as all of them are gentle and tailored to individual needs.
